Long-Time Golden Triangle Senator Dies

WEST POINT, Miss.--Long-time state Sen. Bennie Turner has died. He passed away Tuesday at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson after an illness. Turner represented parts of the Golden Triangle and was a West Point native.

The 64-year-old attorney and broadcaster was a graduate of the now-defunct Mary Holmes College, Miss. State University and the Ole Miss School of Law.

Noted as a champion of public education, Turner served on several committees that affect education, but was not currently of that committee.

Praise for Turner began showing up on Twitter following his death. This statement was on Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves feed:

Fought for justice for all Mississippians & was beloved by both senators & staff. We pray for his family.
