Hostess Jobs Lost in Miss., But There's Big Bonuses Being Paid

NEW YORK, New York--There are plenty of jobs being lost in Mississippi because of Hostess' decision to close its doors, following a union strike. Stores and routes in Oxford, Natchez, Clarksdale, Oxford, Tupelo, Greenwood and other cities will be affected. Schools that use Wonderbread will also scramble to find new vendors as those contracts are broken.

At the ame time, word now from the company is that big bonuses will be paid to some 19 executives, just as your jobs go away.

The company has told media that the $2 million bonuses are incentive pay, needed to retain the high-level execs during the liquidation process.

We are also told that at least two of those executives will be eligible for even more pay, depending on how the liquidation process goes.

Meanwhile, the brands, like Twinkies, will likely live on. The brands will be on the auction block and could be taken over by big corporation to supermarket chains. That will likely not be a reprieve for Mississippians losing jobs at Hostess stores or routes.
