CANTON, Miss. -- She was the oldest living person in Mississippi. Nettie Whittington of Madison County died Nov. 24 at the age of 113. She was the eighteenth oldest person in the world, the eleventh oldest American, and the fourth oldest African American. She was born Oct. 31, 1899 and the mother of 11 children. She was among the few who can say they lived through the Wright Brothers first airplane flight to the creation of the smart phone.
