The tradition includes a large lighted tree, with a choir that, in the past, held lights or candles while singing secular and religious Christmas tunes. In recent years, the lights have been electronic and automatic, meaning the crowd sees a bit of a rhythmic light show while the choir cings.
The 80th performance included current students, faculty and singers from the Tree's history. One singer was there from 1944 to 1947.
