JACKSON COUNTY, Miss. -- The Driver killed in that Thursday bus-car collision in Jackson County has been identified as Bryan Orchard, 47. “But’ that’s really all we know about him at this time,” said a spokesperson for the county’s coroner’s office. “He is from this area.”
That fatal accident happed while Vancleave High School students were headed home. A driver lost control of his car while coming around a curve and slammed underneath their bus.
“The sheriff’s office and the wreckers were able to get the vehicles separated,” explained Jackson County Fire coordinator Earl Etheridge. His crew was on the scene too. “The did extract the patient in the private vehicle.”
That driver, Bryan Orchard didn’t make. And Etheridge says all the kids on the school bus were pretty shaken up; and some hurt too. “Seven injured students were taken to area hospitals,” he said. Five were treated and released.
Counselors are at their high school today to help students cope. That crash is still under investigation. Deputies say Orchard may have been speeding; but they don't know if he was drunk or sick.
