HATTIESBURG, Miss.--Todd Monken, Oklahoma State offensive coordinator, has been hired as the new head football coach at the University of Southern Mississippi. The move was first reported by an Oklahoma newspaper Tuesday, then by CBS Sports.
The university had not made an official announcement as of Tuesday morning. The Miss. Press reported that Athletic Director Jeff Hammond said via text that no deal had been finalized.
USM fired former head coach Ellis Johnson after a season with no wins. That came after the departure of the celebrated Larry Fedora.
Monken averaged 548.9 offensive yards per game in 2012.
