JACKSON, Miss. -- Mississippi is paying its final respects to State Senator Alice Harden. Her body will lie in repose at the State Capitol until 3 p.m. today.
A steady flow of Mississippians have already stopped by the Capital to bid her farewell.
“We’re really gonna miss her. It’s doesn’t seem like it will be the same around here with out her,” I was told. “I appreciate her so much, and I just had to come by here and say good bye,” echoed another.
Those who knew her personally remember Harden as a fighter. “Whatever was on her mind, she spoke it: but it was always to help someone else.”
As for the legacy she know leaves behind, “Hard work and dedication. And making change happen.”
Visitation for Harden is 4-6 p.m. and a memorial service begins at 6 p.m. tonight at Black's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Jackson.
Her funeral is 11 a.m. Friday at Greater St. James Missionary Baptist Church, with burial in Cedar Lawn Cemetery.
