It happened at an inspection station on I-59 just before 4 p.m. That's when Chief Willie Huff says his men stopped a 1999 Freightliner for routine inspection. The rig was carrying plastic pellets. It was also carrying 24 bundles of marijuana, valued at over a half million dollars.
The driver, 35-year-old Arturo Garcia, of Channelview, Texas was locked up, charged with pot possession. Now MDOT is trying to find out where the drugs came from. The rig was seized and impounded.
“We appreciate the diligence of our law enforcement officers,” said Central District Transportation Commissioner Dick Hall. “We are proud of their continued efforts in seizing contraband before it impacts our communities.”
