CLARKSDALE, Miss.--Eighty-year-old Ethel Lewis is dead after an apparent robbery at her Clarksdale home Saturday, and a 17-year-old is expected to be charged with capital murder today.
Clarksdale Police told NewsChannel 3 in Memphis that they got to the home Lewis lived in for more than 50 years and her body was still on fire. The Highway Patrol spotted her Toyota Avalon in Sunflower County and pulled it over. Four teens were in the car. They fled on foot, but were caught.
All but the 17-year-old being charged with the crime were let go.
Though residents in Clarksdale often hear about crime in their community, especially gang activity in recent years, many were still disgusted when they heard about the heinous nature of the murder.
The MBI, the Highway Patrol and U.S. Marshals are involved in the investigation, which will include an autopsy to find out exactly how Lewis died.
