CLAY COUNTY, Miss.-- A familiar last name will be on the ballot January 15th, 2013 to try and fill the late Bennie Turner's seat in Senate District 16.
On Monday his daughter, Angela Turner-Lairy, announced she is running for her father's old post.
"After having watched him over the years, I've practiced law with him, I believe that I'm a good candidate to fill the vacancy, to continue some of his philosophies," said Turner-Lairy on Tuesday.
She has already submitted paperwork to the Secretary of State's office and will be campaigning over the next month.
She said, "I'm hoping to finish some of the unfinished business that he was hoping to complete."
While she wouldn't go into specifics about plans if she is elected, she did offer this for anyone that might not know much about her.
"I am the mother of three grade-school-age children and education is very important to me."
Bennie Turner did serve on the education committee in the Mississippi Senate during his time there.
