Most of the Severe Weather Over, High Winds Expected

JACKSON, Miss.--Most of the severe weather that moved through Mississippi early Thursday was out of the picture by 7 a.m. Severe thunderstorm warnings continued for some counties in the southern part of the state, but tornadic activity had significantly diminished.

The main threat for the rest of the day was expected to be strong winds, ushering in a 20 to 30 degree temperature drop. Most places were expected to reach a high temperature in the morning hours, with temps falling through the day. A wind advisory was also in effect.

Temperatures were predicted to be in the mid 40s by 5 p.m. for most parts of the state.

This is from the National Weather Service:

NORTHWEST WINDS WILL BE QUITE STRONG TODAY. THE STRONGEST WINDS
WILL BE ACROSS THE DELTA REGION WITH SUSTAINED WINDS OF 25 TO 35 MPH
WITH GUSTS AS HIGH AS 45 MPH AT TIMES. AREAS FARTHER SOUTH COULD HAVE
SLIGHTLY LOWER SUSTAINED WIND SPEEDS...BUT WINDS COULD STILL GUST TO
40 MPH AT TIMES. WINDS WILL TAPER DOWN THIS EVENING.
