Moment of Silence Planned in Miss. for Shooting Victims

JACKSON, Miss.--Mississippi will observe a moment of silence at 9:30 Friday morning to remember the victims of the Sandy Hook school shooting in Connecticut.

Gov. Bryant issued the proclamation Wednesday, also asking that churches and places of worship and government buildings that have bells to ring them following that moment of silence 26 times, in honor of those killed.

Other observances continue around the state. About 100 people turned out for a prayer vigil in Vicksburg on the front steps of City Hall Wednesday, where Mayor Paul Winfield talked about the importance of school security and protecting children. There was also a remembrance and bell ringing at Jackson State University Wednesday.
