MDOT Warns of Lane Closures That May Affect Travel

JACKSON, Miss.--The Miss. Dept. of Transportation is warning you about some lane closure that could affect your holiday travel plans. A news release we got says the lane closures will run through the New Year holiday:

No closures to report in Districts Two, Three, Six or Seven.

District One

·         Union County - The outside lanes will be closed on the eastbound and westbound lanes of U.S. Highway 78 between State Route 15 and State Route 30 in New Albany.

District Five:

·         Madison County - No temporary lane closures will be present in the Jackson Metro Area during the Christmas Holiday. However, a permanent lane closure is in place on Interstate 55 north from Old Agency Road to North of State Route 463. The interstate will be reduced to two lanes of traffic on both northbound and southbound lanes in this area. No temporary lane closures will be allowed except during an emergency.

·         Newton County – There is a permanent lane closure at multiple locations along Interstate 20 from Hickory to Chunky, MS. These closures reduce traffic to one lane (head to head) through the construction zones.

“We ask that motorists drive cautiously through these work zones and obey all posted signs,” said members of the Mississippi Transportation Commission in a joint statement.  “We hope that everyone arrives to their destinations safely and we ask everyone to drive responsibly while on Mississippi roadways.”
