Holiday Travel Brisk at Jackson-Medgar Evers Airport

JACKSON, Miss. -- A lot of you are dashing off to visit friends and family for the holidays.  Winter weather and high winds have caused some flight delays in parts of the US.

Here’s a look at how that’s impacting your travel through Mississippi’s largest airport.

“Currently today we are showing a good traffic pattern.  We’ve got good flights coming into Jackson, and leaving Jackson,” said Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport Security Supervisor, Ron Marsalis.

Most of the traffic delays we are seeing right now are on the eastern seaboard, such as New York and Liberty.  And its primarily wind or traffic delays on the ground, which is putting them behind about an hour or an hour and a half,” he explained.

For you, that could mean delays later today or even this weekend.  So Marsalis advises that you “check with your airlines before you come to the airport.”

And of course, be patient.  This is the heaviest holiday travel day at the Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport.  Almost 4-thousand passengers are expected to board or unload there this day alone.
