A statement from the company says the Affordable Health Care Act will force them "to violate their deeply held religious beliefs under threat of heavy fines, penalties and lawsuits." If they do not provide the drugs in the company's health insurance plan there could be fines of up to $1.8 million per day, the company said.
Earlier this year, the company announced it was suing the Obama administration.
"By being required to make a choice between sacrificing our faith or paying millions of dollars in fines, we essentially must choose which poison pill to swallow," said David Green, Hobby Lobby CEO and founder, in a statement to media. "We simply cannot abandon our religious beliefs to comply with this mandate."
The suit was filed in federal court in Oklahoma City. The company says it's founded on Biblical principles and, like recently-embattled Chick-Fil-A, closes on Sundays.
