CHOCTAW, Miss.--Funerals for five children are today. They are the kids who drowned when the SUV they were riding in plunged into a swollen creek in southern Neshoba County about 12:30 Saturday morning. Their father is now charged with DUI manslaughter in their deaths and the death of family friend Diane Chickaway.
The memorial is set for 2 p.m. at the Pearl River Community Center in Choctaw. All of those who died were tribal members of the Miss. Band of Choctaw Indians. Tuesday a wake was held.
Monday Duane John was released from Neshoba General Hospital, where he recovered from water inhalation and hypothermia. He was taken to jail from the hospital and Neshoba County Sheriff Tommy Waddell told media John’s bond was set at $150,000.
To be memorialized today: 9-year-old Daisyanna John; 8-year-old Duane John; 7-year-old Bobby John; 4-year-old Quinton John; and 18-month-old Kekambas John.
Thirty-seven-year-old Chickaway, will be laid to rest Thursday, following a service at Hopewell Baptist Church in Leake County..
Surviving the wreck were Chickaway's husband, the father, Duane John and the childrens' mother.
