JACKSON, Miss. – The capital city gets a visit from Joel Osteen. The religious community may know Osteen as a televangelist and the pastor of Lakewood Church in Houston Texas, which is the largest congregation in American.
I asked local pastor Jimmy Meek, senior pastor for Colonial Heights Baptist Church in Jackson what makes Osteen’s sermons stand out.
“It seems to be a feel good message that many people are longing for, since thousands are willing to pay to go hear that..." said Meek.
"In my limited exposure to his messages, it seems to be no the whole council of God. God is love and there is a lot of good feeling in the bible, but he is also just. It’s like someone talking about heaven the whole time and never talking about hell. People need to hear both sides of the story."
Osteen's Night of Hope service is set for January 4th, at the Mississippi Coliseum.
