WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Myrlie Evers-Williams will deliver the invocation at the inauguration of President Barack Obama this month in the nation’s capital. Evers-Williams is the first woman and layperson every selected for such a task.
She is the widow of slain Mississippi civil rights icon Medgar Evers and once served as chair of the NAACP.
Evers-Williams is currently a Distinguished Scholar-in-Residence at Alcorn State University.
