JACKSON, Miss.—The National Weather Service out of Jackson has extended the ice storm warning for parts of the delta region of Mississippi until 6 a.m. Wednesday morning.
“There’s still going to be rain that’s going to be moving in from Louisiana through this evening and into the morning hours,” said meteorologist Chad Entremont.
And because of that, the second extension on that warning was issued just before dark on Tuesday.
Entremont added, “There’s been anywhere from a quarter to a half inch of ice that has accumulated mainly on trees and power lines [in those areas].”
After Wednesday morning he said most of the precipitation that has wreaked havoc on the magnolia state will move off towards Alabama and leave mainly cold temperatures behind it.
Areas in the portion of the extended warning include: Southaven, Olive Branch, Corinth, Tunica, Clarksdale, Batesville and Oxford.
