JACKSON, Miss. – A charter school bill has passed in the Senate Education Committee. Senate Education Committee Chairman Gray Tollison says they picked up discussion of the bill where they left of last session, making minor changes. Tollsion believes the bill has been improved. They also addressed some of the concerns made by opponents of the bill.
“The one thing I say when discussing the bill is, it’s going to be community’s decision. If they are fed up with the education they are getting in their community. Then you have to actually collaborate with a charter organization such as kips,” said Tollision.

Tollison sees the capital city having the most success adopting charter schools because of the community collaboration already in place and the capacity of the Jackson Public School District.
