JACKSON, Miss.-- An early morning fire in the capital city took the life of one person before fire fighters could put the blaze out.
“The fire call came in about 12:30 a.m. Friday,” said Chief Gregory Travis of the Jackson Fire Department.
The house was located on Georgetown Avenue and when fire fighters arrived Travis said there were already flames coming out of the living room window.
When they searched the home Travis said, “The fire fighters did find the body of a black female in the back bedroom.”
The specific cause of her death is unknown at this time and he says an autopsy is being performed. Her name isn’t known yet either.
Travis says the only thing they currently know is that the fire started in the living room.
“We have not determined the cause of the fire at this time.”
The home that burned was a duplex and he tells News Mississippi that everyone else got out of the structure unharmed.
