JACKSON, Miss. -- Your newest state senator is now officially on the job.
Senator Angela Turner was sworn in Tuesday by Lt. Governor Tate Reeves.
She won a special election this month and will serve the last three years of her late father’s term. Bennie Turner died in November.
Angela Turner tells News Mississippi that she looks forward to completing some of the work he started. “And education is definitely important to me.”
Bennie Turner helped draft the formula for the Mississippi Adequate Education Program (MAEP) in 1997.
The younger Turner is a democrat and a lawyer, just like her father was. She now represents District 16, which covers all of Clay County and parts of Lowndes, Oktibbeha and Noxubee Counties.
