BILOXI, Miss.--The Dept. of Marine resources still under investigation and it’s got to do with misspending of your tax dollars. Sources close to the investigation say they are still gathering data on just how much was misspent. In some cases the agency bought land and many times its value from relatives of people employed there. That’s according to documents from the feds, published by the Sun Herald. The state auditor’s office also confirmed another search warrant was served this week.
The misspending began shortly after Hurricane Katrina, when the coast was in recovery mode. Bill Walker, who headed up DMR, was fired last week by the Commission on Marine Resources, the parent agency.
