JACKSON, Miss. --You may need to be concerned about the safety of your school. Auditor Stacy Picker told that to a room full of mayors from across the state Wednesday morning at the State Capital.
“Our schools in Mississippi have not even updated their school safety plans, much less follow the school safety plan.”
He says the all 19 school districts his office observed since Sept. are in one violation or another of school safety law.
“A child this morning is in a storm shelter is being hostage by a mad man in Alabama cause he went on a school bus, shot the driver and took the kid hostage.”
Pickering said he does not want what happened in our neighbor state to happen in Mississippi. He wants community leaders and local officials to be aware of where schools have fallen short and push for fixing the problems.
