JACKSON, Miss. -- The world has certainly changed a lot over the years. Paul Ott even thinks it’s going in the wrong direction. “I just so happen to believe it’s because we have taken God out of the school.”
Harold Horton couldn’t agree more. “We could say prayer in school. What’s wrong with that? What in the world is going wrong with this word, taking those rights away from us? We must take them back.”
Those words of wisdom from the older generation are being taken to heart by Senator Chris McDaniel. He has filed the Religious Liberties Act of 2013. “What it boils down to is religious liberties and expression.”
McDaniel says by helping teachers better understand recent U.S. Supreme Court rulings regarding religion in schools, his bill would help protest your child’s first amendment rights and even allow them to pray.
McDaniel’s bill has been assigned to committee. Ott, Horton and others joined him at the State Capitol Thursday to show their support for the legislation.
