CANTON, Miss. -- Madison’s Mayor isn’t to excited about Jackson State University’s plans to open a satellite campus in the city.
But even if things don’t work out there, JSU could still call Madison County home. “We would welcome Jackson State,” said Canton Mayor William Truly, Jr.
He’s even sent the school’s president a letter inviting the University there.
“And I can understand Jackson State’s requirement to attract white students. And I hope that works well from them; but, the same thing can be achieved here in our community.”
Truly said JSU could still pull students from Madison and even Gluckstadt. And on the flip side of the coin, he said JSU would be a big plus for his city too. “It makes good sense to educate people. The more you educate folks, the higher the social economic level that person is.”
Turly hopes to get a response from JSU sometime next week.
