MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- At the International Blues Challenge in Memphis the competition is down to 49 semifinalists and four of those bands represent the magnolia state. Peggy Brown with Hit the Road Entertainment said bands from all over the world will compete Friday night on Beale Street, narrowing it down to eight finalists that will compete at the Orpheum Theatre in Memphis Saturday.
The bands from Mississippi that are still in the competition include: Mr. Sip and Kinfolk from Vicksburg, The Ghost Town Blues Band from Rosedale, The All Night Long Band from Indianola, and The Jerica Singleton Band from Jackson.
“We’re so pleased because even eight years ago Mississippi did not had no presence. We had no blues societies and nobody would send any acts,” said Brown.
