JACKSON, Miss. -- State Rep. Joe Gardner (D-Batesville) has died after suffering a heart attack.
“He was a fine man who was well-liked by everyone here. He was one of the kindest members. Our prayers are with his family during this time,” said House Speaker Philip Gunn (R- Clinton) in a statement to News Mississippi.
Gardner has served in the House since 2007 and was Chairman of the House Ethics Committee.
He is the fourth state lawmaker to die in recent months. Senators Bennie Turner and Alice Harden died in late 2012. Represenatives David Gibbs died in January.
