Twenty-five Dogs to be Put Down After Fighting Ring Bust

UTICA, Miss.--On a rural piece of land in Hinds County vicious barks and snarls split the night air Tuesday. Twenty-five pit bulls bred for fighting were taken from a home where they had been locked up on logging chains that were, in some cases, just five ft. long. The chains were attached to car and truck axles buried up in the ground and the dogs were living in deplorable conditions, according to the Miss. Animal Rescue League.

Hinds County deputies were waiting for the dogs' owner to turn himself in. Meanwhile, they were dealing with extremely aggressive animals that have been trained to fight all their lives. Debra Boswell, with the Animal Rescue League, told media the dogs will likely be euthanized.

Deputies said the owner will likely be charged with 25 counts of animal cruelty and at least one count of dog fighting.

There was evidence that the dogs had been trained to fight all over the southeast, including break sticks, which are used to get a pit bull's jaw loose once he locks on to another animal.
