Religion Bill Could Get a Vote-Could Make Prayer in School More Possible

JACKSON, Miss.--Prayer in school is allowed under the Constitution, it just has to be student-led. Some teachers don't understand that and some are confused about what is and what is not allowed in school. That's according to Sen. Chris McDaniel, who got a unanimous vote for his Religious Liberties Act of 2013 in committee Tuesday. That means the bill will likely get a vote on the Senate floor and could become law this year.

Paul Ott is a recording artist, radio show host and activist who, along with many others, has been pushing hard for the bill.

"The Miskellys were there, Noel Daniels was there (prominent furniture and car dealers), we had Christian businessmen from all over," he said, "and churches and all races and pastors. They could hardly say no. Everybody was looking them right in the eye. It would've been a vote against the good Lord."

Ott said he was confident the bill would pass the Senate.

He and other supporters have said they believe taking God out of schools is the driving force behind problems like school violence and teen pregnancy.
