JACKSON, Miss. – You are paying 30 cents more for gas now since the beginning of the year. The average price for gas in Mississippi today is $3.25 a gallon. According to Don Redman with AAA it could continue to rise according to a forecast by the U.S. Department of Energy.
“Their forecast was, by this spring we could see prices averaging between $3.60 to $3.90 a gallon,” said Redman.
He did offer some hope. Redman said historically Mississippi gas prices have been ten cents lower than the national average, but that would still be more than you are paying now with the increase.
Twice now we have seen the economy retreat into recession like levels when the price of energy gets too high. In America we are an economy based on cheap energy. Spending money on energy has a ripple effect in your every day life. From dinning, to traveling, to entertainment, and other leisure things, that money you would be spending elsewhere is now going into the gas bank.
