Social Media Used to Help in Tornado
HATTIESBURG, Miss.--Social media may be the best way to find out how your loved ones are faring this morning if they live in the Hattiesburg area. MEMA officials suggested that using your cell phone to call may tie up bandwidth needed by vital emergency workers.
Reisdents were using Twitter and Facebook to check on one another.
Text messaging may actually be more effective than a phone call, according to Jeff Rent, a spokesman for MEMA. The reasoning behind that is that texts require less bandwidth to send and can often get through in areas where phone calls cannot.
