HATTIESBURG, Miss.--The Red Cross is known for lending aid during disasters, but the Hattiesburg chapter took at direct hit during Sinday's storm. Red Cross volunteers were reluctant to say just how much damage was done to the building, but it was obvious from photos Tweeted out from the scene and posted on Facebook that damage was quite severe.
One photo posted on Facebook showed one of the disaster response units with serious damage.
The Red Cross was still expected to render aid, but with crews and equipment from outside the area.
There was no question from the National Weather Service that it was a tornado. Several videos appeared on Youtube almost immediately showing vivid images of the twister as it ravaged the city and the campus of the University of Southern Mississippi.
