William Winter's 90th Birthday Symposium

JACKSON, Miss – Normally people celebrate their birthday by throwing a party or going out to eat. Former Governor William Winter decided to hold a symposium for his birthday on the future of Mississippi and the South.

News Mississippi asked Winter changes he would like to see in education.

“What it gets down to is having Administrators, particularly Principles who are committed to building up their schools in the best way they can, and attracting the best teachers that they can. And paying them enough!” said Winter.

Winter said the future of Mississippi is based on what we do now. “We’ve come a long way but still have a long way to go.” He said there must be an understanding on the part of every citizen that it is his or her responsibility to do whatever is necessary to build the state up.
