ITAWMBA COUNTY, Miss. -- A symbol of our country was shot down, now a Prentiss county man has plead guilty. The incident happened back in December when 23-year-old Tyler Wallace and a minor took his boat out to Itawamba County to go duck hunting. A fellow hunter who thought Wallace shot down a buzzard reported him, but when Mississippi Department of Wildlife Fisheries and Parks officers came to take a look, they found a dead bald eagle that had been placed under a log.
Although bald eagles can be found in the lower 48 states, they are still pretty rare in Mississippi, with only 31 breeding pairs. Wallace received probation for a year meaning he won't be able to hunt or set foot at a hunting camp. He also had to give up his boat, trailer and two guns.
