Vicksburg Mayor Winfield Arrested Wednesday-A Federal Case

VICKSBURG, Miss.--Paul Winfield was a guest at the Madison County lock-up Wednesday night after his arrest earlier in the day on federal bribery charges. The FBI arrested the mayor at his Vicksburg home at around 4 p.m., according to WAPT.

The charges-bribery. No other details were being made available by the feds. News Mississippi is told part of the Madison County Jail is reserved for federal holding.

City council members knew of the arrest, but have not made further comment to News Mississippi.

Winfield's record is not squeaky clean. He is set to defend himself in a sexual harrassment trial where a female city employee is seeking over $1 million in damages. He wasn't criminally charged in the matter.

The mayor's plan, as of his arrest, was to run for another term.
