The announcement by the company and Gov. Bryant came just over one week after an EF4 tornado took out several businesses, temporarily closed others and partially wrecked the USM campus.
News Mississippi's Michael Mergens reported the company will locate in the Cloverleaf Center on Hwy. 49 south and is expected to bring 225 jobs this year, with 25 more by 2014.
"The new location, which is scheduled to be operational by April, will support the company's work with the U.S. Dept. of Educations' Federal Student Aid program," he said.
“I am proud to welcome General Dynamics Information Technology, part of a Fortune 100 company, to Mississippi,” said Bryant. “The decision by General Dynamics to locate these operations here and create so many jobs for the area’s residents is great news not only for the Hattiesburg region but for the entire state, and it will certainly have a positive impact on the local community. I thank General Dynamics for placing its confidence in our business climate and our workforce.”
The Miss. Development Authority is getting some of the credit for helping court the company and work out the details. They also provided $150,000 in support of the project, in addition to local and state statutory tax incentives and workforce training assistance.
