Severe Weather Over, Damage From Tornado Reported

JEFFERSON DAVIS COUNTY, Miss.--A tornado was reported just after 10 p.m. in rural Jefferson Davis County, according to a post from Mississippi Storm Chasing. On their Facebook page, the group said the new dual polarization radar indicated an actual tornado, which may have caused damage.

The damage was limited to trees and a mobile home in the Green's Creek community. The National Weather Service will likely send a survey team to confirm whether there was an actual touch down.

The Weather Service held a press conference last week that touted the advancements in tornado prediction and a more positive picture of what is actually going on on the ground, following the Hattiesburg/Petal EF4.

Weather Service officials said they were able to get a much better picture with the Hattiesburg tornado, which gave them much more lead time with their warnings.
Though rain and storms were expected to linger in south Mississippi, no more severe weather was expected in the state through the weekend.
