Memorial Service Held For Late MSU President Zacharias

STARKVILLE, Miss.—A memorial service for the late Mississippi State University president Donald Zacharias was held Thursday on campus.

After an opening video showing the accomplistments of Zacharias, MSU president Mark Keenum opened up with lengthy remarks about his friend.

“We’re here to celebrate the remarkable life of Donald Zacharias,” he said.

Keenum spoke about the great heights the former president took MSU to while he was at the helm from 1985-1997.

“There’s no doubt that Dr. Donald Zacharias will be remembered at Mississippi State for his leadership and his accomplishments.”

Several others spoke including author John Grisham spoke about how Zacharias helped him out before he was well known in literature circles around the country and visited him at the state capital.

Excellence in many areas was evident while he was the leader of MSU like huge increases in fundraising and enrollment during his 12 years.
