Miss. Kid Sets Fire to Home For Fun

By: Knox Graham

GULFPORT, Miss.—On the Gulf Coast over the weekend one 16-year-old set fire to a home seemingly for fun according to authorities.

A neighbor called 911 after seeing smoke coming out of a nearby house according to Gulfport Fire Chief Mike Beyerstedt.

The neighbor also reported seeing someone leaving the scene.

“They saw a young man leaving the home shortly before our arrival,” said Chief Beyerstedt.

Once the crew got inside and put the blaze out he said it was obvious that it wasn’t an accident the fire started in the home.

Crews saw a teenage male hanging around the scene shortly afterward and questioned him.  According to Beyerstedt he confessed to starting the fire.

“He said he felt like burning something,” said Beyerstedt. “That’s what he told our crew.”

They then called the police to get them involved and he was taken in for questioning.

His name hasn’t been released because of his age and what charges he could be facing are unknown at this point depending on if he’s tried as an adult.
