JACKSON, Miss.--Whether your car or house got damaged in the hail storms in central Mississippi or your semi or business took a hit from winds in Tupelo Monday, it's time to file insurance claims and it's a good idea to do it now.
While the hail was still beating roofs and windshields Monday, state Insurance Comm. Mike Chaney Tweeted two key points:
After hailstorm passes-Check car for dents &broken/cracked glass. If hail has battered property, take steps to protect it from further damage.
Hail damage?-Contact agent or company as soon as you notice damage.Almost all homeowners policies cover hail damage.
One of his key points is that most homeowner policies, unlike flood damage, do cover hail. Make sure you take good pictures and make a good assessment, covering all damage when filing your claim. That includes for your vehicle.
Make sure you find reputable repair companies to repair your home or car. Check their reviews online.
Don't allow anyone else but your insurance adjuster and the repair company on your roof and save any receipts from anything you might spend before the insurance settlement is worked out.
