GULFPORT, Miss.--When a Gulfport firefighter put on his fire suit Tuesday to fight a fire in a shed, he had no idea it would land him in the hospital. That blaze happened just before 5 p.m., according to Fire Chief Michael Beyerstedt.
He told TV station WLOX that just before the firefighter, whose name he did not give out, entered the small structure, that he was blown backwards off his feet.
Beyerstedt did not say what caused the small explosion, but said the fireman was being taken to the hospital for evaluation. He did not believe the injuries to be bad.
"He appears to be okay. He's just shaken up," he said. The fire was controlled a short time later.
