ABB expanding, creating 50 new jobs

A global manufacturing technology leader is expanding its North Mississippi operations.

ABB is expanding its advanced manufacturing operations in Senatobia after opening in 2016. At the time, the company announced the creation of 300 jobs and they’ve been able to fill half of them. The expansion will not only create 50 new jobs, but it will allow ABB to fill the remaining 150 openings.

“ABB’s decision to expand in Senatobia just more than two years after opening is a shining example of a public/private partnership benefiting the people of our great state,” Governor Bryant said. “Mississippians are hard workers, and I know ABB’s new employees will continue the company’s legacy of manufacturing quality, high-tech electrical components.”

ABB is constructing a 200,000-square-foot addition next to its existing Senatobia facility to support the company’s growth. The expansion will strengthen the company’s capabilities for full production of ABB Tmax XT circuit breakers. Other productions manufactured in Senatobia include the company’s Emax 2 Breakers, TruONE Automatic Transfer Switch assemblies and other electrical switches. ABB plans to begin construction on the addition this spring with operations beginning in the new facility by the end of the year.

“Since 2010, ABB has invested over $14 billion in the United States, and the U.S. represents the largest market for our products,” said President of the Americas for ABB Greg Scheu. “We will continue to invest in the products we make here, as well as the people who make them, as we expand to meet customer demand.”

The Mississippi Development Authority is providing assistance for infrastructure and building improvements. The city of Senatobia and Tate County are providing standard property tax exemptions.

“Based in Zurich, Switzerland, ABB is a technology-driven company with a global footprint, so the company’s expansion in Senatobia is a strategic move and a compliment to North Mississippi, as the company has found we have the people and prime location that enable ABB to reach its corporate goals in our state,” said MDA Executive Director Glenn McCullough, Jr. “We salute the Tate County Economic Development Foundation, the city of Senatobia and Tate County for their teamwork with MDA, which was instrumental in bringing this economic development win to our state.”

ABB employs approximately 1,400 in Mississippi throughout its locations in Senatobia, Byhalia, Columbus and Crystal Springs.
