Abortion Rally in Mississippi: Women Can’t Be Free Without Abortion on Demand, With No Apology

JACKSON, MISS– Stop The Patriarchy, a women’s rights activism organization, shouted above traffic during lunch in Jackson today.

“What’s going on here in Mississippi, is a concentration of a war against women and their fundamental reproductive rights,” says Joan Hersch, activist with StopthePatriarchy.org.

Hersch was dressed like the rest of the protestors, in all white, with the front, back, and inner legs painted red, to represent blood.

“This is to represent that if abortion is not legal, women die,” says Hersch.

The protestors shouted “Abortion on demand and without apology,” as well as “A fetus is not a baby,” as people waited in their cars in lunch hour traffic.

StopPatriarchy.org does not just speak about the issues surrounding abortion, but women’s rights in general.

Activists with Stop Patriarchy went into Hooters in Jackson Saturday night for another protest against the objectifying of women.

“Women are not bitches, hos, punching bags, sex objects or breeders.  Women are full human beings,” says a statement from Stop Patriarchy,  ” All across the country women are faced with measures that limit their freedoms: decreased access to birth control, laws that restrict and even criminalize abortion, and an exploitive and degrading porn industry that promotes the objectification of women.  This must stop.  We must organize, work to raise awareness and demand the full liberation of women.”

The group handed out information then left the Hooters without any trouble.
