Attack on Officer Leads to Lockdown at Parchman

PARCHMAN,MISS– Mississippi Department of Corrections Commissioner Marshall Fisher says Parchman is on lockdown after an officer was stabbed during an inspection Monday morning.

Right after the attack, a shakedown turned up multiple weapons and phones.

The officer was inspecting Unit 29, which holds up to 1,500 inmates, at the time of the attack. He was stabbed in the head and neck area multiple times. MDOC is not releasing that officer’s name, but says his injuries aren’t fatal.

Micheal Goldman is being charged with assault in that attack. Goldman was already serving time for three felonies in Madison County.

Fisher says today that weekend visits at Parchman have been cancelled, and phone and canteen use have been suspended.
