Beyond ‘Bless Your Heart’: Mississippians Pull Potty Mouth During Telemarketing Calls

JACKSON, Miss–It’s a known fact that Mississippi is the Hospitality State– but the hospitality wears thin during telemarketing calls.

It’s a study that’s a year old, but it’s hitting Twitter again. Marchex.com ranks the states with the amount of cursing they’ve recorded on telemarketing calls. Mississippi is one of the “sailor states,” meaning the potty-mouth flows freely when we get that dreaded sales pitch. The top five state likely to let the swear words fly are Ohio, Maryland, New Jersey, Louisiana and Illinois; the top five best behaved are Washington, Massachusetts, Arizona, Texas, and Virginia.

However, Mississippi was also one of the states to be courteous, more often than not, using “please,” and “thank you,” quite often.

Marchex conducted the study with recorded telemarketing calls–so remember to mind your manners.
