The Big Senate Race Lawsuit: True the Vote Asks for Restraining Order Against GOP

JACKSON, Miss.–If you’re following the continuing arguments about the race for U.S. Senate in Mississippi, then you probably know that True the Vote, a Texas-based organization aligned with the Tea Party, filed a second lawsuit in federal court in Mississippi’s Southern District Wednesday. The group has also asked for a restraining order against the Miss. Republican Party.

The restraining order’s purpose, according to a press release from True the Vote is to “to prevent further tampering, redaction, or destruction of voter records by Defendants or their agents.”

Defendant county commissioners have continued to violate federal law by preventing access to election records.  Now, we think we know why,” said True the Vote founder,Catherine Engelbrecht. “If the affidavits we now have regarding the destruction of election documents and other similarly stunning findings are true, then no Mississippian, no American, can trust the results of this election.

True the Vote will be providing the Court with dozens of full detailed affidavit reports, containing stunning evidence of election subversion, including:

  • Destruction of  voters’ absentee ballot applications and mandatory envelopes;
  • Illegal alteration of poll books;
  • Cross-over and double voting;
  • Absentee ballots marked “Accepted” but unopened.

Cochran’s campaign countered with a news release of its own Wednesday afternoon:

The review of 61 of the 82 counties is now complete and the results continue to show extremely low numbers of questionable votes,” said campaign spokesman Jordan Russell. “As we noted in earlier updates, these are simply votes, including absentee and affidavit ballots, that are questioned, it does not mean they are definitively improperly cast votes. Because of secret ballot, of course, there is no way to determine for which candidate these votes were cast.

We have now moved into the third week of Chris McDaniel continuing to assert that a monstrous fraud was committed yet he has supplied zero evidence for these allegations. It is extraordinarily irresponsible for an elected official to make such claims without providing proof. Our campaign continues to update our information in order to provide specifics. We also continue to urge the media to demand the same level of specificity from the McDaniel campaign and to question their assertions of ‘irregularities’ while refusing to define what that means.

The news release included this county by county status report about the campaign’s examinations:
