New Augusta, Miss. – A bomb sniffing dog along with a bomb disposal vehicle are at the scene were police, early this afternoon,  apprehended a man they believe to be involved in the reported shootings near Camp Shelby.

UPDATE: The bomb squad gave the all clear after searching the truck.

Police haven’t found shell casings. But Alfred Baria is in the pen, charged with disturbing the peace and owning a weapon while being a felon. Baria says he didn’t shoot and it was his truck backfiring, but he admits he’s the guy cops were looking for, reports WDAM.

For the second day in a row, shots were reported just outside of Camp Shelby. At around 11 a.m., authorities say they heard gun shots and chased a man down in a maroon, Isuzu Pickup.

The suspect says the sound authorities heard was a backfire and not the sound of a firearm.
