Bond Denied for Second Man Accused in the Brandon Family Killing

COPIAH COUNTY, Miss. — Bond has been denied for the second man charged in the death of a Brandon family. Cedric Mason was in court Friday afternoon. He is charged in the kidnapping and murder of Atira Smith and her son, 7-year-old Jaidon Hill.

Mason is also accused in the murder of stepfather Laterry Smith, but that charge is expected to come out of Hinds County at a later date.

The family’s car was found burnt on the side of the road in Copiah County last Friday. Tuesday, police were lead to a shed that housed their bodies in a rural part of the county by Timothy Burns, who was also denied bond on charges of murder.
