CARTHAGE, Miss.–Corporal Van Perry died Friday while in the hospital after a heart attack Aug. 28. He had the attack after taking in a shoplifting suspect.
Perry had been on the force in Carthage for 15 years.
He collapsed after bringing the prisoner to headquarters for an interview.
